GDPR Essentials for Therapists (7 Nov)

This event has now SOLD OUT and a new date has been added: Thursday December 10th (6.30pm – 9.30pm). This extra workshop is not yet showing up on the website but you can book via this link: https://loumasoncoaching.com/event/gdpr-essentials-for-therapists-dec-10/

I will also be adding another Saturday workshop in the New Year – email lou@loumasoncoaching.com to reserve your place.

Content Summary:

This short workshop will walk you through the essentials of GDPR for therapists and other professionals managing sensitive data within their businesses.

As well as being a tricky topic to get your head around, GDPR can be easy to dismiss or overlook as part of your essential business practice. However, it’s a legal requirement and one you therefore need to get right. This session will give you a really easily understandable overview of your obligations – what you HAVE to have in place – as well as offering up some template paperwork that we will discuss in detail together to help you bring your data protection practice up to date and up to speed.

If you’re not sure if this workshop would be helpful for you, here’s a few questions to ask yourself:

Do I have a separate general privacy policy and a sensitive data policy?

Do I have a complaint handling procedure detailed in both – as now required by law?

Would I know what to do in the event of a complaint coming in?

Do I have a detailed data inventory documenting the flow of all data into my business – as required by law?

Does that inventory explicitly explain the agreements I have with all third parties about how they manage my clients’ data eg Google, Meta, Xero, Stripe, ProtonMail, basically any software company that you use as part of your business practice?

Do I understand the 7 legal bases for being allowed by law to hold different types of personal data?

Am I correctly attributing each piece of data I collect to the right legal basis and have I detailed that in all my documents?

Am I up to date with the other four changes that came in, in June 2026 (the complaint handling procedure being the 5th change)?

If any of this is news to you – or you aren’t already doing it – then this workshop will be a really valuable investment. It includes a template data inventory, a template sensitive data policy and a 3 hour CPD certificate.

The workshop will include breaks and will be delivered in an engaging and accessible way to help what can be a really dry subject come to life. There will be time for questions at the end.

What’s covered:

– The 7 principles of GDPR that everyone must adhere to
– your key obligations (in understandable accessible language!)
– the different legal bases that apply and which you must link to every piece of data you collect
– general privacy versus sensitive data privacy : why you need two separate policies
– the mandatory requirement of a data inventory / ROPA tracking all data flowing into your business
– demonstrating your data protection agreements with third parties eg google, zoom, stripe, Xero etc
– walking through a data inventory template (which you get to keep)
– walking through a sensitive data policy template (which you get to keep)
– the new legal requirement of a complaint handling procedure
– the other four changes (good and bad!) that have come in since the update in June 2026
–  useful additional resources
